Performances:
All of Mike's monologues are available for performance, and he'll travel almost anywhere to tell a good story.
Though he usually performs in theaters, Mike Daisey has also performed his monologues--and specifically tailored, original compositions--at corporate retreats, labor union rallies, and everywhere between, from the London Trade Union Congress to TechTV to National Public Radio.
He has taught storytelling workshops and performance seminars in college classrooms and corporate enclaves, helping people learn how to tell their own stories and embrace the power that storytelling gives us to communicate and transform lives.
He has hosted events ranging from The Moth in New York City to Bumbershoot in Seattle, from non-profit fundraisers for the well-heeled to story-based events for the dispossessed.
What can he do for you?
Workshops and Courses:
Mike has taught workshops on the art of storytelling and extemporaneous autobiographical solo performance all over the world. By introducing people to the tools and skills we use to hone and refine stories, they help people look into their own experiences to find their own stories, and the paths needed to tell them with their own voices. Everyone tells stories, every day—it's a uniquely human event that cuts across social, racial and class lines like almost no other art form.
Some of the institutions he's worked with include:
• Yale School of Drama
• American Repertory Theatre
• Dartmouth College
• Citibank
• Wesleyan University
• Colby College
• Carnegie Mellon University
• University of Washington School of Drama
• International Refugee Center
• Benjamin Banneker Academy
The workshops revolve around exercises in listening as a path to real communication, teaching interviewing techniques for finding the messy, complicated heart of a story and ample opportunities for participants to get on their feet and tell their stories out loud, the place where stories really come alive. Workshop length varies from hour-long introductions to storytelling, all the way up to a full academic courses they've taught at Colby College which culminate in a theatrical performance of stories the students discovered, refined and worked on throughout the class.
Everyone has stories to tell, and everyone can benefit from learning how to tell those stories better—it is, after all, a universal art form.
